Style & Society Dressing the Georgians Exhibition at The Queen's Gallery Buckingham Palace

The Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace, presents a fascinating exhibition about Georgian Fashions. We  how styles developed through the period from the accession of George I to the death of George IV, the period from 1714 to 1830. What were they wearing in court? What were the common people wearing? The exhibition includes over 200 items such as cartoons, paintings, prints and drawings, many shown together with rare surviving examples of jewellery, accessories and clothing.  All aspects of Georgian society are explored. Court dress, workers' fashions and  the military come under scrutiny. Fashion extremes put the Georgians in the line of fire from the cartoonists of the day including artists such as Thomas Rowlandson who gave us "The Progress of the Emperor Napoleon" (1808). This play examines challenging topics including  fate, loyalty, mental illness and the undeniable power of physical attraction. A small cast of five take on the full weight of a very powerful subject giving us an outstanding production.  Tickets may still be available from Sedos  but you'll have to be quick as seats are selling fast!

St John the Baptist Donatello/ Desiderio da Settignano About 1454-57 London's V&A  Museum Presents  Donatello Sculpting the Renaissance The V&A Museum has created a fascinating exhibition showcasing many outstanding works never seen in the United Kingdom before.  The display looks at the Renaissance master's influence on the artistic and cultural development of a vital period in art history. Donato di Niccolo di Betto Bardi, known as Donatello, was born in Florence, Italy,  in about 1386. He is believed by many to be one of the most important artists of the Renaissance.  In a career spanning some sixty years, he used many different materials and techniques to creative exciting and innovative sculptures for display in both public and private settings.  Many of the artists influenced by Donatello are also featured in this exhibition and we can see the similarities and differences in their works.
